08 Mar 2007 - Twin check

Not much going on this morning (or rather, I'm writing this a couple of days later, and don't remember what happened..)
I waited around all day doing odd jobs, and was just about to go home when a Job come up - People needing to get to Snake Bay (That's the airports name, the nearby town is Milikapati - unsure of the spelling). So after stuffing around with refueling (we were spoiled at Moorabbin) and getting the passengers, we set off.

Cessna City - a view from nearby the office

The curious thing about flying around this area, is the effect of altitude on both the heat and humidity. Starting up on the ground, it's 98% humidity and 32d in the shade. Perhaps double that in the cockpit. In cruise, the temperature drops to a cosy 20 odd degrees, and the humidity is less... but on landing, it's like descending into a sauna, and you're once again reminded of where you are!

It was dark departing Snake Bay, and we encountered more crap weather on the way into
Darwin - there must be something about flying with Richard that sets it off, I think...We got back OK, after he had worked me over (one engine circling approach at night with low cloud..) then there was only one thing remaining to finish my required checks, that is, the 'wet drill' - where I've got to jump into a pool fully clothed, don and inflate the life jacked, and drag someone (in this case, Richard) for a couple of laps.
It wasn't quite as difficult as I expected, and I really didn't mind going for a swim! After drying off, we had beer and a pizza, and I got home about midnight. A long day.
