01 Mar 2007 - Darwin Day 2
First day at the new job. Not much going on for me today - plenty of new faces and names to remember, plenty of paperwork to do. The first flight is a single engine aircraft check flight, to bring me onto line so I can begin, but is not to be done today due to the increasing rain and the decreasing cloud ceiling. Someone mentioned something about a tropical depression, when a couple of other pilots tried to get to Jabiru and other outposts, but couldn't get in due to low ceilings.
One of those mentioned some thunderstorm activity on the way back... hmmm
Earlier in the day I'd picked up a cheap rental car to get myself about. It was an interesting walk from the motel, in light rain, to the airport terminal where it's airconditioned.. plenty of humidity today. I'm staying with my brother at Palmerston, about a 25 minute drive away, so I'll need the wheels to get to and from work, and to look for a more permanent place to stay.
