05 June 2007 - Mudgeegardaar
....or, otherwise referred to as 'Mudgerigar' - you will have to click here for a google earth link, because even google didn't turn up the place name - heck, our various airstrip guides list various ways of spelling it! No photos yet - it was a little turbulant down low today, and the strip was perhaps the tightest I'd been into, with the surrounding trees, etc.
Mudgeedardar exists because of Tropical Hunting Safaris, and today I'm picking up a father and son who have spent the week chasing wild boars, buffalo and whatnot on quad bikes. I hear the body count was high. One way of keeping down the ferral animal population. These guys come from Sydney, to Mudgardarderdardar, just for the week of blasting action, then returned. No time in Darwin, no time to waste, things to waste...
A note on the side - something else I've become (almost) accustomed to is the occasional roar of 1 or more F-18 Hornets departing or leaving, for wherever it is they go. At first, I'd be jumping from my seat, running for a look, as we never see these critters down south. But after a couple of weeks, I'm hearing them, but not looking for them. Two more are landing as I type. This weeks a proverbial airshow, with some military exercise going on. Guaranteed, if I write regarding them in another month or so, I'll just be sick of them taunting me with their fancy radio calls, priority handling, overhead passes and sidewinder missiles... I wonder if I can get sidewinder missiles fitted... Tropical Aerial Hunting Safaris, perhaps ???
