28th May 2007 - 100's and 1000's
Unfortunately, today started at 1am.
Unfortunate, because Deb had been up for the weekend, and that was the time I had to put her on the plane back to Melbourne.
The good new is, that's the last time. The next time I go home, we'll be packing everything up, and driving up as a 'family' - Deb, me and the hound.
After seeing Deb off, I went home and slept a little longer. Todays flight did not start until 11 o'clock, so I could afford a little longer sleep in.
The 11 o'clock flight was the only one scheduled for me for the day, but that suited. I had to fly to a new place - Bamurru Plains - for pickup of a VIP and return him to Darwin, for a connecting QANTAS flight. He was VIP only because he had to make the connection - and I apparently got the flight because I am reliable - well, at least I can be on time. I departed a little early, just to make sure I didn't let them down.
Landing at Bamurru Plains was a little confusing, because the co-ordinates I had did not quite match the airstrip location - they were out by 1.6nm - but as I couldn't see anywhere else to land - at least nowhere that was not buffalo infested - I set it down on probably the shortest strip I've been into since I got here. I had to hunt a while to find someone, but a station hand I found told me I was in the right place, so that was a small relief.
My passenger arrived shortly after, and apparantly he quite enjoyed his stay - but so he should - check out the web site for an idea of this place and if you're brave, have a look at the rates... spooky. The actual 'resort' is a 15 minute drive from the airstrip, so I didn't get a look in, and possibly never will.
On returned to Darwin, I spent a couple of hours washing the plane down, and getting the paperwork and this Blog in order. At the end of it all, my logbook now reads (amongst other things) 1000 entries, and 100 airstrips visited.... not a bad ratio, and I'm making progress....
